Proverbs 23: 7a, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he…”
When we take a moment to think about who we are…as individuals, as parts of the whole, it is not uncommon to judge ourselves harshly. We often stack ourselves up to the achievements, possessions and attributes of others, not a good idea I might add. But it is a natural evil, to compare who we are to those we look up to, dislike, or just have knowledge of. So when making the decision to become a fear-less person, living a life of freedom and contentment, it must be acknowledged that the choice is one of great courage. It is by far easier to live in constant fear, competition and mediocrity. The systems of our world are designed to keep us seeking the newest everything. Newest technology, newest possessions, newest relationships, newest trends, fads…foolishness. And sometimes we all fall victim to the pressure of the “newest.” When my cell phone lost its’ “cool” appeal, I fell into the trap of trying to be one of the “hip ones” and bought the newest, updated cell phones (smile). Problem is…for spending almost $200.00 on it…I realized it is still basically just a telephone.
By nature, we are designed to make our decisions in panic-stricken, terror controlled, media-driven environments. Our experiences are often the sum of our survival of circumstances rather than our active ability to take authority over our issues and live the way Jesus did…in love and unafraid.
We often feel this is the only way we can live our lives…that we don’t have many options. But Jesus’ example of living proves us wrong if we think this way. He admonishes us to try a “more excellent way.” (1 Cor. 12: 31 New International Version) In this verse of scripture, the Word tells us: “But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.”
The “greater gift” referred to in this scripture is Love and the “most excellent way” is Fearless.
More soon…Blessings,
