…Groan.

I recently heard a sermon on the importance of earnest prayer and how achieving honesty before the Lord is the key to getting His attention.

There is simplicity in being honest. When we come to God honestly we strip ourselves bare and present Him with our reality in all of its rawness.

When we come to Him in this way, often there are no words that can state our emotional and spiritual experience. We may cry, wail, speak in our prayer languages (tongues), plead for mercy or just maintain a posture of stillness where any words or sounds fail us. We may do all of these things.

What is clear, is that, it is in this place of raw honesty, that we tap into the intercessory power of the Holy Spirit. Right when we are honest enough to surrender and concede that we are at our end, where all of our efforts have failed, the Comforter is activated in our situation and responds in intercession on our behalf with “groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26).

Powerful, life-giving, life-changing utterances are prayed over and for us by the Holy Spirit in these times of our earnest surrender. He demonstrates that it is He who is for us and with us and in us…to remind us of and encourage us in the ultimate victory we have in the situations we face.

The groaning and utterances the Holy Spirit speaks on our behalf create in us the desire to stand firm on the promises our Heavenly Father has made to us. His mission is to re-energize us and give us greater focus on what God said the outcome of our trials would be…victory in Him!

The Word says that the prayers “of the righteous avail much” (James 5:16), but know that the source of power of those prayers is the Holy Spirit…interceding with “groanings too deep for words.”

Let’s honestly pray with the Holy Spirit and let Him change our outlook about our situations and remind us that we have victory in them because we are His!

Until next post…be blessed!
