Okay, I know you’re reading this on some kind of device. And I really appreciate it. But let’s talk about looking up.

We live in an age when tech has become more part of our lives than relationships. We get up to cell phone alarms, ask Alexa to give us the weather report, kick on the Roomba while we use a remote to turn on lights, deactivate the home alarm system and start the espresso machine. Yeah, tech has infiltrated our daily living…big time.
Even pre-pandemic, which has catapulted even the tech savvy challenged into new levels of use (can you say “Zoom meeting”? 😁), our capacity to develop and maintain our relationships with people and nature was slowly dimming. We spend most of our waking hours looking down at a device. It’s not only bad for our posture…it’s bad for our countenance. Do you ever feel blue after spending hours hooked up to tech? Yeah, me too.
As I was listening to my worship music today, I was reminded by the Holy Spirit that we, His children, need to look up again. Now, I admit this seemed a little cryptic to me at first, but upon reflection I realized that God was saying that it is time for us to “look up” again…at Him.
Psalm 121 (NKJV) is the perfect teaching on what we gain by looking up at Abba. It says:

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills- From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not allow your foot to [a]be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your [b]keeper;
The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall [c]preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve[d] your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
God will preserve us from all evil. Got enough of that going on in the world now. He will be our keeper, keeping us through hard times, unrest, and destruction. He will preserve our souls at every watch of the day. And so much more. What uplifting promises. All from looking up at the One who is forever faithful and blesses us without sorrow. If that doesn’t encourage us to unplug, sit still, get in His Presence and look up…perhaps it’s time to rethink what’s truly important in our lives.
So, let’s do it. Let’s look up and let God in so He can be involved in every area of our lives.
Be blessed, until next time. vw1
I will try to remember to look up.
