I used to think that coincidence was a natural act. Random things happen to people all the time, right? Good and bad situations affect the best and worst of us. That’s what I used to believe.

But when I got saved, I began to learn that there is divinity in the “randomness” of our lives.

When I first read the verse of scripture that says “and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28), I learned that God doesn’t operate in random. There is purpose in every action, interaction and situation in each of our lives…whether we believe it or not.

This wisdom from Romans teaches us that for those of us who love God, receive His Son, Jesus, as our Lord and Savior and walk in the Christian path, everything we go through…good or bad, will work in our favor. This is true, not because we are superior to others but because we have chosen to follow the narrow road toward Christ. And trust me, not every thing we Christians go through is easy…but we go through it knowing that God has our backs and He has a good “plan” (Jeremiah 29:11) for us.

The dictionary calls a divinely ordered outcome, providence.

Providence is God seeing the end of our lives from the beginning of it, and preparing, equipping, training and building our human capacity to live victoriously through whatever situation we are facing.

So my answer to this question is no. I don’t believe in coincidence, randomness or chance. I’m the daughter of the God of providence…and He knows how it ends.
