What’s something you used to worry about but don’t anymore?
In my twenties, I thought sixty was ancient. Back then, I never thought about getting old.
When I turned 40, I tried several of the new health fads of the day…because I worried about getting old.

Turning 50 was both a wonderful and terrifying experience for me. While I relished looking younger than my age, my body was silently betraying me as it cascaded into menopause.
As I approached 60, I made peace with my beautiful, aging body. It has evidence of a life well lived. I don’t dye the few gray hairs I have. I earned them. I don’t fight my knees when they let me know that one more store aisle is one too many. I take care of myself, but have been known to binge eat Dove dark chocolates while watching a favorite movie.
(We listen and we don’t judge.)

Recently I became a grandmother. It’s the best thing that’s happened to me since I had my own children. She’s funny and joyful and makes me feel young. And I have determined that what is meant to be, will be. So, I enjoy my laugh lines, try not to strangle my hips with too tight pants, and love the senior woman I see staring back at me. The trick, I’m learning, is to stop wasting time worrying about trying to make aging stop…and to grow old gracefully.
Blessing…vw1.
