What’s a moment when a stranger completely restored your faith in people?

One of the things I love about social media is that if you look very closely, there are humans out there doing really awesome human things. I follow a few of those humans. Their content brings me joy and takes me on emotional journeys that really do restore my faith in people’s ability to be amazing.

One gentleman in particular is on a YouTube channel called “Uncle Jhonn.” He spends his time and money fixing, repairing and beautifying people’s living spaces, who would not be able to afford it. I watched one video where he went driving down a random neighborhood in his city and found a house that was in serious disrepair. He knocked on the door, to have a handicapped veteran in a wheelchair open it. When he asked the vet if it was okay to take care of some of the repairs for him for free, the veteran began to cry. And so did I. Uncle Jhonn has hundreds of videos on his channel with similar stories.

But it’s not just Uncle Jhonn. If you look you can find hundreds of social media creators who are giving others tangible gifts demonstrating love, care and dignity. And yes, I personally know people doing extraordinary things for others. As a Christian, we are admonished by Jesus to care for those who have less. He speaks of the poor, widows and orphans…and teaches that we are to lend assistance with compassion for those who need it.

I understand that with so many horrors going on in the world, it may be difficult to believe there is any good. But I believe that we are capable of so much good. We are, after all, created by God, in His image and likeness. So as His Image Bearers, we are wired to care for each other.

When we let our kindness be unlocked, we show others what it means to be human. As Christians, it is how we show the love of Christ, and live in a way that brings people to faith in Jesus. Colossians 3:12-14 says:

“¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ¹³ Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ¹⁴ And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

Consider being someone who restores faith in people. And let your kindness be unlocked.
